How Repsol is using routing to drive engagement in Waylet

Repsol is expanding its charging network, but like any CPO, adding chargers isn’t enough—drivers need to find them, use them, and keep coming back. Increasing station utilization and keeping customers engaged in Waylet, Repsol’s mobility app, is key to making EV charging work as a business.

That’s why they integrated routing into Waylet, turning it from a simple station finder into a route planning tool that keeps EV drivers within Repsol’s network. Instead of just showing charger locations, Waylet now guides users to the best charging stops based on real-world driving conditions like battery size, terrain, and weather.

To understand the impact of routing, we asked Jesús Muelas Párraga, Product Manager of the Waylet application, about how EV routing shapes the Waylet experience.

From a station finder to an EV trip planner

Repsol wanted Waylet to be more than just a map of charging locations. With Chargetrip’s routing engine, they enhanced the experience turning static station data into dynamic, real-world route planning.

Instead of just displaying nearby chargers, Waylet now guides drivers to the best charging stops based on battery size, terrain, and weather conditions. This ensures better routes for drivers and higher station utilization for Repsol.

"Routing makes our app more attractive. Users now rely on it for more than just charging—it helps them explore areas they wouldn’t have considered before."

Guiding drivers to the right stations with CPO preferences

Not all charge points are equal. Some offer better pricing, faster speeds, or exclusive benefits for loyal customers. That’s why Repsol built a two-tier routing system for customers using Chargetrip’s CPO preferences feature.

With Waylet, drivers can see all available charging stations or choose a route that prioritizes Repsol chargers, where they receive better pricing and loyalty rewards. This keeps users engaged in the app while growing utilization of Repsol’s stations

"We built a feature using Chargetrip’s routing API that shows two routes—one with all CPOs and one with only our main CPO stations for our most loyal users. By differentiating routes, we help our users get better prices while keeping them connected to Repsol."

By putting charging choices in the hands of drivers, Waylet enhances the customer experience while strengthening Repsol’s network utilization.

Making EV travel easier

For many drivers, range anxiety is no longer the main barrier to EV adoption—charging infrastructure has expanded, and stations are easier to find. The real challenge now is helping drivers charge efficiently—finding the right station at the right time, avoiding unnecessary stops, and ensuring they always have access to a reliable charger.

With Chargetrip’s Route Planner, Waylet helps drivers plan better routes, guiding them to the most efficient charging stops based on battery level, terrain, and real-time conditions.

"At first, it was about range anxiety. Now, it’s about giving drivers freedom and showing them all their charging possibilities along the way."

EV routing is a competitive advantage

Repsol has turned Waylet into more than a payment app, it’s an EV companion. By integrating routing, they’re ensuring drivers return to their network while offering real value beyond just finding stations.
